The University of Plymouth is ranked in the top 3% of degree-granting providers of higher education in the world, in the CWUR World University Rankings, and has more than 23,000 students. The city itself is soaked in a proud military history. The Plymouth Hoe is a short walk away, not only does it provide stunning views but it is full of history, Sir Francis Drake statue stands overlooking The Hoe before the well-known landmark Smeaton’s Tower.
Students in the area flock to Plymouth Pavilions for regular live music gigs, and there are three bars run by the Student Union on the main University of Plymouth campus. Elsewhere Switch, on North Hill, is a lively venue where dancing into the early hours is always on the cards, and OMG is one of the area’s most instantly-recognisable LGBT nightclubs.
As for retail therapy, even the shops pay homage to Plymouth’s past, with the wonderfully-named Armada Centre and Drake Circus hosting independent and big-name stores, restaurants and cafes. The city centre is packed with a diverse range of outlets that meet every need.
