Autumn Fashion 2022 Trends: Everything You Need To Know

Autumn Fashion is back and it’s here to stay. Who’s excited? ‘Cos to be honest, once it hit 00:00am on September 1st, we were logging onto ASOS and Zara trying to find the latest styles and trends for the upcoming season.

Sorry, let’s take that back a minute, it’s September. As in, SEP – TEM – BUR. The month, the ninth month of the calendar year…like, surely not?!

This year has absolutely flown by, and we’re not really that mad about it. We’re so ready to wrap up warm in the top fashion trends for autumn/winter 2022.

Need all the help you can get? Don’t worry, we’re here to help!

1. Knitwear

Knits are a must in your autumn collection this year, similarly to last year and next year, and probs years to come. Tbh, knitwear is a staple in your wardrobe and we’re so here for it.

When focusing on the AW22 collections, designers Louis Vuitton, Molly Goddard and Chanel focused their attention on knits and pulled their looks off purrrrfectly.

Simple patterns in colours such as caramels, outmeals, creams and browns are definitely a vibe this autumn.

Mega knits are also a huge yes this autumn! Think maxi length, sweater dresses, layering and chunky scarves. It’s giving … effortlessly chic!

We’ve also seen striped knit jumpers doing the rounds all over TikTok for a predicted fashion trend for autumn/winter 2022. Come on, we all own a striped jumper, whip them out cos’ this piece is back in fashion baby.

2. Bomber Jackets

We think that Top Gun: Maverick has caused a revival of the bomber / flight jacket, we’re all suckers for a bit of nostalgia, aren’t we?

When focusing on the AW22 collections, designers Prada, Elie Saab, and LaQuan Smith embraced the vintage-style flight jacket in full force. Leather bomber jackets are gonna pop off this year too!

We’ve probably all got one of these jackets sitting in our wardrobe from a few years ago, they’re so casual and easy to style. Think jeans or joggers and a t-shirt, styled with a bomber jacket on top, it’ll really elevate this look.

Another fab thing about them is that anyone can pull them off in whatever setting. Whether it be heading to uni or going on a night out there’s so many bomber jacket styles for you to choose from – you’re spoilt for choice!

3. Corsets

Gen-z absolutely LOVE corsets, with #CorsetTok currently at 63.7m views at the time of writing.

This clothing item has been in fashion for a while as they’re so flattering and stylish, but we think this winter is gonna be the moment to show off your shape in all the right places.

Various designers like Dior and Balmain embraced corsets in their AW22 collection. Think corset in neutral tones colour palette!

Let’s be real, it’s rather cold in the UK during the autumn/winter months so we’ll all be freezing in a corset top, instead why not wear a collared shirt underneath with the corset over it? You’ll look unreal!

4. Colour

Normally, we associate these colder months with more beige and brown vibes, but we think that vibrant colours are going to be in full force this autumn/winter.

The Barbiecore trend has already taken over TikTok this summer and we think it’ll be no different for the colder months. We’re talking about girly vibes from the late 90s and early 2000s; neon colours, bright and bold, sparkly pieces!

Barbie has long inspired the fashion industry but with the filming of the upcoming Greta Gerwig, pink girly girl aesthetic has been everywhere and we’re living for it.

We saw bright pink colours in this season’s Valentino show, with almost the whole collection being in the same shade of pink.

Bright colours aren’t just for the summer, don’t shy away from them.

5. Puffer Jacket

In this instance, the bigger the puffer coats, the better *EEEEEK*.

Sorry, but name something better than wrapping up in a warm puffer jacket in the winter months? ‘Cos we sure can’t.

The fashion industry has always loved a big coat, the shape has been on trend for years so it’s guaranteed to not go out of style this autumn/winter 22.

Honestly, now all we’re dreaming about is getting to Winter Wonderland in our huge coats and having a Baileys hot choccy…what’s not to love?!

6. Y2K

Now, we know Tik Tok has had a huuuuge influence on this next season trend, but we didn’t think it would blow up this much! With the release of season 2 of Euphoria, the Y2K style is bigger and better than ever.

Y2K is all about bright colours and bold silhouettes, so balance those neutral knits with a bubblegum pink dress. Think Maddy Perrez for real!

Designers such as Miu Miu, Charles Jeffrey and Chanel have slayed the runway with their autumn winter collections and showed us how miniskirts and fuzzy fabrics are so in right now.

Who’s complaining? Nostalgia is back and better than ever!

7. Oversized Blazer

If you want to switch up your style, then oversized blazers and suits are the perfect outfits to try for autumn/winter 2022! The hashtag #Blazeroversized currently has 3.4m views so we’re sure this predicted trend is gonna be one to add to your wardrobe.

A blazer really brings any outfit together whether it’s skirt and tights, leather pants or jeans. If you want to look put together but you also don’t feel like spending time planning an outfit, then a blazer is the BEST way to really polish off your fit.

Designers like Tom Ford, Alberta Ferretti and Michael Kors all focused on blazers for their autumn/winter 2022 collections.

When it comes to a tailored two-piece with an oversized blazer and pants, some of us run away from the idea of wearing such a shapeless piece but, they can make you look relaxed and powerful.

Which we saw with Emma D’Arcy, where they wore a black oversized suit to the House of the Dragon premiere.

8. Maxi Skirts

We mostly associate maxi skirts with spring, when the weather’s getting that bit warmer but it’s still slightly chilly. Who is to say maxi skirts aren’t for the autumn/winter months too?!

Models such as Kendall Jenner and Elsa Hosk and influencers like Emma Chamberlain have been rocking the maxi skirt for the fall season.

The best part is, they’re super comfortable and they look fab paired with a shirt or jumper. We reckon plaid maxi skirts are the ultimate outfit inpso!

Designers that focused on maxi skirts and maxi dresses this year were The Row, Saint Laurent and Altuzarra.

9. Cargo Skirts

Another skirt trend we absolutely adore is the return of the 90s staple cargo skirt.

Whilst mini cargo skirts have been everywhere this summer, the long styles are for sure having their moment with the likes of Bella Hadid and Mia Regan being at the forefront of the trend.

Maxi cargo skirts in neutral colours are gonna slay in the colder months this autumn/winter, go head over to Urban or find a second-hand piece on Depop and add one to your basket!

10. Loafers

Now, onto the biggest shoe trends for autumn/winter 2022… LOAFERS! They never really went out of style, did they?

These are the best everyday shoes as they’re just so classic and cool. Whilst the viral Prada loafers are for sure out of a lot of our price ranges, there’s still some amazing affordable chunky loafers to add to our wardrobe.

If you don’t already have a pair, go get them they’ll look great for running errands or going to uni in style!

We’d suggest trying to break in your shoes now in time for autumn/winter cos’ some pairs don’t half hurt your feet.

Think Sustainable!

We hope this guide has given you all the tools you’ll need for your autumn fashion wardrobe! We’re honestly obsessed and hope you are too.

One of the main things we wanted to talk about to sum this up was the climate. Of course, styling for a new wardrobe is so exciting but the fashion production accounts for 10% of greenhouse gases and this number is increasing every year.

For your wardrobe in your student flat, take the time to shop second hand, on apps such as Depop and Vinted, or even head into your local charity shop! We bet there’s sooo many items you’re bound to fall in love with at a fraction of the price.

We have a blog on how the BeReal app is changing social-media for Gen-z, you defo need to check it out!
