Danesgate House Top Building Design in Lincoln
Homes for Students property Danesgate House, in Lincoln, has been awarded a prestigious award.
The newly-refurbished building, located in the Cathedral Quarter of the city centre, has won overall at the first ever Lincoln Good Design Awards. Residents and visitors were asked to vote for their favourite building scheme in the region.
The awards have been established to recognise good design. The list of potential winners was put together by officers in the Council’s planning department and a panel of experts from the University of Lincoln and Civic Trust, before the city council confirmed the final rundown of hopefuls.
Danesgate House, which is within walking distance of The University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University, has been included in the Commercial Projects category. The student accommodation is provided by Homes for Students, one of the UK’s market leaders.
Cllr Jim Hanrahan, Chair of the City of Lincoln Council Planning Committee said: “This is the first year that City of Lincoln Council has introduced the idea of design awards.
“We wished to acknowledge and encourage good design in planning our city.
“In drawing up the shortlist, of recently completed schemes, the Council worked with colleagues from the Civic Trust and University of Lincoln.
“We have looked at lots of aspects that contribute to a great design, such as how the building contributes to its environment, and how it engages and stimulates visitors.”
“Although most of the buildings are very different in their designs, they all have one thing in common – They all make a positive contribution to the visual appeal of Lincoln.”
Danesgate House managed to grab the award for the Overall Winner for the amazing transformation.
