The ULTIMATE Guide To Lancaster Nightlife | [UPDATED 2022]

If you are studying and living in student accommodation in Lancaster, you’ll have your pick of a large number of bars, student-friendly club nights and nightclubs.

The small city is a pleasure on the eye, with its medieval castle and the stunning Georgian architecture along the River Lune.

Lancaster is well known as a University that works its students hard throughout the year, and with that you can come to expect nightlife in town that plays hard too! It’s all about that balance in life.

Find out low-down on what the nightlife is like in Lancs…

Lancaster nightlife

1. SugarHouse

First up on our list of Lancaster nightclubs, is the legendary student Union’s club in the centre of Lancaster, SugarHouse.

Here, you can get cheaper entry with a Student ID card, and there are also free ‘sugar buses’ that run between campus and the club (making sure nights out are cheap and more importantly safe for everyone).

SugarHouse has grown massively over the years, since it was first established in 1982.

There are themed weekly nights, with all genres of music and tastes catered for throughout the week. So, what can you expect each week at SugarHouse?

Wednesday night is a duel night at ‘Jinxed’, where Hip-Hop and Indie music go head-to-head across two rooms.

Friday is an old school night with classics from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, as well as some of the best house music and Drum n Bass around.

Saturday is the main draw though, with house classics, smooth RnB tunes, and Hip-Hop beats – it is the biggest night in town.

2. Generation

Next up on our list of Lancaster nightlife hotspots is Generation, a buzzing LGBTQI+ venue.

There’s a few days to look out for each week, with their opening being Monday & Wednesday 10pm-4am and Friday & Saturday 10pm-6am.

The vibe in this place is great with glittery walls, a cage for club goers to dance in, rainbow dance floor and groovy neon signs – perfect for an insta post!

Each night usually has a different theme, as well as the place being host to ‘Social Wednesdays’ on the day most societies and sports clubs from the University hit the town.

This busy bar and nightclub has big student nights, DJ nights and karaoke (with prizes like huge bar tabs). Not to forget, they also do beer pong so you can get competitive in a game.

It’s cheap and cheerful, and you can dance with your friends and have the time of your life. Go see for yourself!

4. Tipple Cocktails

If you’re ideal night if a few cocktails with your mates, then Tipple is a must. You’ll find it situated on King Street in the town centre so it’s an ideal location if you’re living in an accommodation nearby.

This quirky bar offers hand crafted cocktails, quality spirits, wines and beers so there’s tons to choose from depending on your bev of choice. We recommend the Solero with absolut passionfruit, absolut vanilla, orange juice, cream soda and lemon.

They’re open 7 days a week until 2am so if a good time is what you’re after, this place will provide it.

Not to forget, the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable on cocktails so if there’s something you want that isn’t on the menu, it’s worth asking! Whilst it might be on the pricier side, it really is worth it.

5. The Crypt

Last but not by any means least on our list of Lancaster nightlife spots is, The Crypt.

You’ll find this cocktail lounge and eatery located on Market Street, just a 3-minute walk from Lancaster Castle.

These guys serve delicious cocktails and tapas, and we even heard through the grapevine that you get a free plate when you order a cocktail. It’s worth trying out for this reason alone, right?

They also offer 2 for £10 on a few of their cocktails, our fave is the Tom Collins which comes with gin, lime and soda – it’s super light and refreshing.

When you venture here, you can sit and have a chit chat with your friends whilst listening to the great live music they have on. Cos’ who doesn’t love a singalong!

This place even has an outdoor terrace area perfect for those sunny days, which are long behind us these days (sigh).
