A Jolly Guide to Christmas in Southampton 2021
Southampton is a small but might city with a pretty sweet coastline. At Christmas, our favourite coastal city doesn’t disappoint either. From cheesy club nights and wholesome market fun to not so wholesome brunches, there’s something to delight each and every student.
There’s still two weeks before you pull that cracker, stuff your face and laugh at your drunk cousin so get the student gang together and have a jolly good old time this Christmas in Southampton.
1. Southampton Christmas Market
Traditional German festive market fun complete with Bratwurst, mulled wine, beer and live music is a must for every student.
Located above the Bar Pedestrian Precinct and Bargate area, the Christmas markets are the beating heart of the city during this time of year.
Artisanal foodie stands and cute crafts make this perfect place to do some last minute shopping while glugging Glühwein.

The market is open 10am to 8pm. Food and beverage stalls open from 10am to 10pm. The bars are open until 10pm featuring live music between 4.30pm to 9.30pm.
2. Steam Illuminations
A mere 30 minutes drive from the city centre will take you to the delightfully cheerful and wholesome steam train illuminations.
Nestled within Hampshire’s beautiful Winchester lies the market town of New Alresford and a 10-mile LED jackpot.
Running until 2nd January 2022, the steam train illuminations is an incredible light show on the move.
This magical ride makes a welcome break from all the boozing, so be sure to grab a ticket and climb aboard.
This little unassuming bar has bucket loads of festive student nights.
If you love cheesy tunes, cheesy décor, giveaways, smoke machines, fancy dress and multi-coloured shots, then Popworld is for you.

4. Jester’s Winter Wonderland
Iconic and messy is what usually springs to mind when you mention the legendary Southampton student bar that is Jesters.
Now add a touch of festive cheesiness, elfish charm and a bauble bonanza and you’ve got the Jester’ Winter Wonderland.
For one night only, the nightclub turns into Santa’s grotto complete with gifts, drinks, fancy dress and snow. End the term with a bang and have a night of festive mayhem.

5. Dawn’s Snowy Blowy Christmas Tea Party
Missing Ru Paul? Why don’t you sissy that walk all the way over to Dawn’s bottomless drag brunch?
The charismatic and hilarious host, Dawn, brings with her a whole hoard of special guests that are set to give you a festive brunch like never before.
Innuendo, frolics, frivolity and spilling Tea are just some of the things you can expect from this amazing show. Get your tickets now to make sure you don’t miss out!

6. Christmas Bingo Loco
Head down to the Engine Rooms on 17th December for some absolute madness.
Yes, Bingo Loco is back but with a Christmas edition that will make the crowd go wild.
For just £16, get your student mates together and have a night filled with dance offs, lip sync battles, confetti showers, prizes, festive bangers and of course, BINGO. Christmas Bingo Loco is good enough as a standalone event or the best pre-drinks you’ll have all year.

7. Juiced: Snow Ball
Can you believe on the same night a Bingo Loco, it’s Juiced? We said it would make a great pre-drink.
Yes, Southampton’s quintessential student night is back for one last night boogie for 2021. Juiced is on a mission to give you a full-frontal festive night out to remember.
You’ve probably been to Juiced before so you know the night has the whole fire breathers, podium dancers thing going on.

8. Mayflower Theatre
Boozing isn’t for everyone so a trip to the theatre might just be the ticket – check out the Mayflower Theatre for a good old panto. With ticket prices starting from £15, this could be a great Christmas afternoon get together.
For Strictly fans, Craig Revel Horwood stars as the Wicked Stepmother in the classic Cinderella so expect laughs, sing-a-longs and outrageous acting.
9. Christmas Shopping
Whether you’re shopping for yourself or your mates and family, Southampton has loads of shops to choose from. The Beatnick Emporium is the place you need to go for your vintage queens – loads of amazing garms that make the perfect treat or gift. Vintage also means sustainable too so defo give it a visit.
If you fancy a mooch around the shops, a spot of lunch, a boozy tipple, an impromptu jazz sesh, some calligraphy and then a selfie with a leafy reindeer in snow, then West Quays is the one for you.
Since Christmas was cancelled last year, make sure you make the most it with friends and loved ones. Remember to check the latest Covid guidelines when booking events as things keep changing – you don’t want to be caught out and not have your vaccine passport if you need one.
