National Fish & Chip Day 2017
It’s National Fish & Chip Day! For the second year one of Britain’s favourite meals is being celebrated, bringing together those heroes of frying who serve up one of the tastiest treats to emerge from our shores.
Fish and chips is more than a national dish, it’s rooted deep in our national identity. Ask any visitor to the UK what they associate with the country and fish and chips will undoubtedly be up there with roast beef and pubs.
Today, fish & chips remains a firm favourite for households across the nation, providing a hearty meal for all occasions. The humble fish & chip meal has also come under the spotlight of a host celebrity chefs, all of whom have their own interpretation of the dish – be that double-frying the chips or, in the case of experimental chef Heston Blumenthal, accompanying the dish with the sounds of the sea.
National Fish & Chip Day is a celebration not only of the meal, but also those who provide our favourite fast food – from the fish & chip shops, pub chains, restaurants, retailers, to the fisherman and farmers who provide the sustainable and natural ingredients needed to create this iconic dish.
Organised by NEODA (the National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association), National Fish & Chip Day on June 2 provides the perfect opportunity to sample this fabulous food, though little excuse is usually needed!
With over 250 million fish & chip meals served in the UK every year, the meal is a firm favourite with everyone from the Prime Minister to celebrities and working people across the nation. It is also worth noting that fish & chips contains around a third of the calories of many other takeaway favourites.
So, why not treat yourself to a national treasure and enjoy a plate of fish & chips tonight?
