Preston is a warm, friendly and diverse city located in the North West of England. It is large enough to offer a wealth of entertainment, culture and events for all tastes, yet remains small enough to quickly feel like home!
It won’t take you long to get to know your way around after reading our student’s guide, and the campus and accommodation are centrally located to make exploring easy.
Best of both worlds – Preston, A Student’s Guide …
If you’re currently deciding between city and campus living, our student accommodation in Preston offers the best of both worlds.
The 30,000 students that live there are well catered for in terms of bars, restaurants, shops and entertainment and all located within easy reach of the university and main accommodation. However don’t let Preston’s size deceive you, it is a diverse and multicultural city with a lot to offer.
You can shop till you drop at St Georges Shopping Centre and the Fishergate, soak up some rays at the Avenham and Miller Parks, digest some of the area’s history at The Museum of Lancashire or get your culture fix at The Harris Museum and Art Gallery.
There’s a good balance of chain stores and independent shops for you to peruse, and the same goes for local bars, cafes and restaurants.
Despite all that Preston has to offer, you might sometimes feel like a change of scenery and Preston has two major cities and a beautiful coastline on its doorstep. Liverpool and Manchester are both striking cities offering something for all tastes, with world-class entertainment, shopping and a famous nightlife. Both cities offer striking architecture, cultural gems and a rich musical heritage yet have a strong sense of individuality.
The Victorian seaside resort of Blackpool is just over 30 minutes away, meaning the beach is close by for those gorgeous sunny days. Explore the arcades, enjoy the thrill of a roller-coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and have a splash in the Sandcastle water Park.
Dubbed the ‘UCLan Masterplan’, the University of Central Lancashire is undergoing a 10 year regeneration plan and improvements are already visible around campus. The enhancements will benefit students as well as local residents, and improve routes to and from the university to the city centre. The plans also feature social spaces, safer pedestrian areas and upgrades to sports facilities.
