The University of Oxford ranked no.1 in the world!

For many years, Oxford has been revered as one of the epicentres of academic brilliance. Students have made their way to the city over the decades to embark on a memorable learning journey.

It didn’t seem possible that its reputation could be further enhanced. However, The University of Oxford has been officially acknowledged as the best in the world – making this educational hotspot even more appealing.

It came out on top of the pile in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-17. It is the publication’s biggest international league table to date, and the only global university performance table to judge world class universities across each of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The University of Oxford saw off some stiff competition from prestigious counterparts based ‘across the pond’ in the USA, including runner-up California Institute of Technology and third-placed Stanford University.

University College London also did the United Kingdom proud by being ranked in 15th position in the table, as did London School of Economics and Political Science (25th) and the University of Edinburgh (27th). King’s College London eased into the top 100 with a 36th-place position, while the University of Manchester gave the north of England plenty to smile about by being identified as the 55th-best university on the planet.

Glasgow joined Scottish neighbours Edinburgh in this educational hall of fame courtesy of the University of Glasgow being ranked 88th, and the University of Sheffield produced some Yorkshire pride in 109th.

Students in all of these cities can go about their studies safe in the knowledge that they are in the presence of greatness, at some of the very best universities the world has to offer.

Now that is taken care of, the university experience can be further enhanced by ticking another important box – finding the right student accommodation.

Securing somewhere that is close to the places that students will visit regularly – their university, shops, and popular social spots, makes student life a lot easier and more enjoyable, which in turn has a positive impact on studies.

Homes for Students, one of the UK’s leading providers of student accommodation, has fantastic properties in all of the above cities – from Cambridge Terrace in the heart of Oxford, Lightfoot Hall off the famous Kings Road in London, and Daisybank Villas in Manchester, right the way through to Sheffield’s Rockingham House, Edinburgh’s Beaverbank Place and Kelvingrove House in Glasgow, plus many more.

Each one of the properties is conveniently located close to the universities as well as local amenities, iconic landmarks and buzzing nightlife.
