8 Best Places To Experience Leicester Nightlife | [UPDATED 2022]

If you have just recently moved into student accommodation in Leicester one of the first things you’ll want to know is where are the best places to go to for a big night out. 

Leicester is home to tons of nightclubs, bars and student-specific club nights, and holds the title as the UK’s 10th biggest city so it certainly knows how to party.  

We’ve put together a list of some of the top nightlife destinations in the East Midland’s city. Carry on reading to get to grips with the best places to make some mems!  

Leicester nightlife

1. Mosh

Most is an indie rock and alternative club in Leicester city centre that is spread over a massive three floors.

It’s one of the biggest on the student calendar for Leicester students, as it runs an alternative club night every single week on Tuesday and Thursday where it’s open 11pm-3:00pm and on Friday and Saturday 10:00pm-3:30pm.  

Depending on what night you go and what floor you’re on, you can expect to hear different music on each so there’s something to suit everyone.

Although the dancefloors are usually heaving with DJs spinning some stone-cold indie and rock classics, as well as DnB, dance, and chart hits. 

It is a legendary club for Leicester students, you can expect to see everyone there at some point, and the perfect end to a midweek night out. We can’t forget about the photobooth either, which makes for the cutest pics with your new friends!

2. The Fan Club

If you’re looking for a place to go to for weekly events, live DJ sets and student friendly drinks deals then the Fan Club is the place to go. Did someone say 2-4-1 bevvies?! 

For over 30 years this place has been a hotspot for students and locals keen for a good time after dark in Leicester.  

Situated on Abbey Street in the heart of the vibrant city centre, the large venue offers 3 dance floors and 5 bars to explore.

There’s weekly themed nights and spinning a variety of music genres played throughout the week from 80’s tunes to 90’s club classics to R&B to indie, rock and alternative.  

The Fan Club is completely unique when it comes to bars and clubs in Leicester. This 1000 capacity venue is always packed and full of energy, and well worth a visit to meet other like-minded students.

3. Club Republic

Club Republic has been a popular nightlife destination in Leicester since 2010 and is the ultimate place to go to for some VIP action and a luxury night out on the town.  

Situated on Gravel Street, this place offers something different with more of an exclusive feel than other nightlife spots.  

The boudoir red décor in this nightclub that has five different bars and rooms to explore, is something to behold.

There is a night here for everyone’s taste, and it is also host to different student club nights each week.  

Their famous Skint Fridays are a must if you’re looking to start the weekend off in style with two rooms of tunes and cheap drinks deal’s – £1 vodka and mixer all night, woop!  

Get into the cocktail booth, dance to the state-of-the-art sound system, and be treated like a VIP on special occasions.

4. Firebug

Firebug is a solid all-rounder as far as Leicester is concerned.

This award winning, independent bar is within walking distance of both the uni campuses so it’s for sure the place to go after you’ve finished uni for the day!  

They’re open from midday until 4am every night of the week, with an upstairs venue that hosts live music and other performances, has amazing student-friendly club nights, immersive cinema events, weekly quizzes and other quirky nights to enjoy.

We live for their Student Rock night on Thursday’s.  

Downstairs though in Firebug there is a completely different vibe, offering great food options, and a massive beer garden, all open until the early hours.

Not to mention, they also have an arcade upstairs with tons of retro games to play, so you can beat your mates! 

You can dance, laugh, enjoy live music, eat, drink, and chill out, in one multi-functional two floor space at Firebug.

5. The Exchange

Are you more of few chilled drinks and a chit-chat kind of nightlife enthusiast?

Well, you’ll love the chic bar, The Exchange, situated in Leicester’s Culture Quarter opposite to the Curve Theatre.  

Whilst the building is a bit of a weird shape and hard to wrap your head around it at first, once you enter, you’ll find plenty of space, plenty of quiet corners to have a drink in the narrow bar, and quaint candles dripping with wax, and comfortable chairs to while away the hours. 

They offer a collection of cocktails, craft beer, gin, wine and non-alcoholic options as well as hosting a variety of events from live music nights, DJ events, comedy nights to much more.

6. Club Helsinki

Club Helsinki is an LGBTQ+ hotspot on Rutland Street with an unparalleled entertainment programme including drag queens, live music acts and DJ’s spinning the decks all the way until 6am on the weekend.

Next up on our list of the best places to experience Leicester nightlife is The Basement, located in you’ll never guess what… a basement on Wellington Street.  

Within the buzzing underground venue, you’ll find fairy lights, brick walls, couches and wooden tables making it a weird but wonderful place to experience a good night out.

They also operate a late-night license in the city so, if you’re looking for good vibes and a non-stop attitude until 6am most nights, this is the place. 

Whilst The Basement is well-known for its funk, soul and Motown events they also offer an array of sounds including hip-hop, house, R&B and Dnb events five days a week.  

It’s also free entry before 1am at most of their club nights, so it’s worth starting the party off early to save some pennies!

8. Quarter 25

Last but by no means least within our guide of the best places to experience Leicester nightlife is Quarter 25.  

Quarter 25 is Leicester’s newest nightclub having only opened in 2021, although, despite not being open for as long as other nightlife venues, it’s undoubtedly one of the most popular spots for house and tech music within the city.  

Spread across two floors with state-of-the-art sound and lighting as well as artwork by world-renowned artists, we guarantee you’ll love the vibe in this place.

You’ll find it located within the Cultural Quarter, with club nights and must-see DJ events showcasing weekly, with the likes of Jax Jones and Danny Howard already having taken to the stage here.
