12 Unmissable Spots for Students in Liverpool

If you’re heading to uni in Liverpool next month, you’re in luck – it’s a hugely fun, very historic and massively arty city with hundreds of things going for it.

Liverpool unmissable spots

We asked National Student writer and Liverpool fashion student Lucy Fletcher about her top spots in the city. From alcohol-fuelled crazy golf to indie nights, here are the (largely eclectic) places she thinks you shouldn’t miss in your first term…

1. Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf
Location: Liverpool ONE
Lucy says: “You can drink and play crazy golf at the same time! They do loads of different cocktails, wine and beer, and you can bring it round with you when you play.”

2. Jacaranda
Location: 21-23 Slater St
Lucy says: “A bar/food place where your booth has a vinyl turntable in the middle, so you can listen to your choice of music.”

3. Ziferblat
Location: Albert Dock
Lucy says: “All the food and drink is free but you pay 6p a minute to be in there. They also have loads of board games to play. Unlimited coffee – what more could you want?!”

4. Concert Square
Location: City Centre
Lucy says: “Literally just a square of bars and clubs for you to get your boogie on, with a large seating area in the middle.”

5. Bongos Bingo
Location: 67 Greenland St
Lucy says: “I don’t know how to explain this one! Bingo and a rave all in one?”

6. Bold Street
Location: City Centre
Lucy says: “Full of indie shops, cool independent coffee shops and restaurants.”

7. The Raz
Location: 108 Seel Street
Lucy says: “Cheapest night out in Liverpool. SO good. Plays a really good mix of music. Last time I went I paid £6 for two drinks and two bombs.”

8. HeebieJeebies
Location: 80-82 Seel St
Lucy says: “The basement plays really good indie music all night. Really cool atmosphere.”

9. Leaf
Location: 65-67 Bold St
Lucy says: “The BESTTTTT coffee shop! Sells hundreds of different flavours of loose leaf tea (they do it themselves I believe), the loveliest interior, amazing food, they also host gigs every few nights!”

10. Open Eye Gallery
Location: 19 Mann Island, Liverpool Waterfront
Lucy says: “A really small photography gallery by the docks.”

11. Utility Design
Location: 60 Bold St
Lucy says: “Stationery shop! Really cute, reminds me a bit of Paperchase – I think they only have branches in Liverpool and London.”

12. The Brunch Club
Location: 37-41 Duke Street
Lucy says: “Coffee shop and cafe dedicated to brunch. A little bit more expensive but sooooooo good.”

Phew. After all that busyness you’re going to need somewhere peaceful to rest your head… So, where should you live?

Homes for Students  has four properties in Liverpool, all within walking distance of The University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA).

St Andrews Gardens is one of the top student residences in the city, offering a vibrant community of 400 beds in shared flats. It was named the second best student accommodation in the city by Liverpool Echo, and we can see why – with welcome events to get to know your new flatmates, yoga classes and even cocktail making events, it’s hardly your typical student accommodation.

Need your own space? Windsor Court, in the heart of the student community on London Road, offers a number of studio apartments for students.

Offers on the Homes for Students website include discounts on essentials including gyms, restaurants and moving companies. Find out more here.
