The Student Guide to Birmingham!

Birmingham is the UK’s second biggest city, boasting a vibrant cultural feel with plenty of attractions for students. Moving to a new area can be a daunting process for a student, not knowing what to do, where to go and how to do things. Luckily, Birmingham offers a wide range of activities in the heart of the city centre, all of which are within walking distance. Joining your student union and a society of interest to you may also be wise, as they will be holding regular events also.

Time for shopping!
If you fancy some retail therapy, look no further than The Bullring, where you can find all the latest designer brands. Then why not head to Selfridges, where high fashion brands such as Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors and Kurt Geiger await you. If that doesn’t satisfy your shopping desires you can walk approximately five minutes towards The Mailbox, and check out premium brands such as Armani and Harvey Nichols

Entertainment
If you are into your movies you can enjoy cinemas such as Odeon and VUE in the city centre. Further afield you could catch an UBER (Free ride when you register with UBER) to Star City and take in the arcade, cinema, restaurants, bowling alley and a mini funfair. Star City offers a host of cool things to do without leaving the complex. It is definitely a ‘must go’ during university.

Nightlife
Students often frequent two hotspots – Broad Street and Arcadian. Pryzm is a big hit on Broad Street on a Friday night, one of the largest venues in the country. You could also go to clubs such as Zara’s Walkabout and Velvet Lounge. Also be sure to head across the road to Brindley Place for bars playing all the latest club anthems until 3am.
Arcadian boasts clubs such as Mystt and Snobs, playing all the latest hits on rotation. If you are a fan of live entertainment, check out The Sunflower Lounge, which is just a short walk away. Other highlights include The Loft Lounge on Bromsgrove Street, which is next to Arcadian and China Town.

Be sure to check Facebook for any events. Remember to take your identification and ensure you have made the appropriate travel arrangements.

National Sea Life Centre
If you are still on the lookout for more entertainment, you can visit the National Sea Life Centre which is home to more than 1,000 creatures such as sea horses, otters, giant turtles and yes, penguins. Who doesn’t love penguins, rights?

China Town
Oriental cafés, restaurants, bars and bakeries bring China Town to life. You can also enjoy the iconic venue known to locals as The Glee, which offers the best in music and comedy. For fantastic food, make your way to Café Soya. The prices are affordable for students and the food is top notch!

88 Bromsgrove House is walking distance from most attractions and offers on-site features such as a gym, games room, cinema room, study rooms, cook house and a karaoke room. Click here to find out more about this brand new student accommodation.
Birmingham is definitely the city for exploring, meeting new people and making most of your experience at university. Remember to follow us on social media for accommodation information and more really cool things to do in Birmingham!
